History & Highlights
The Historic Ritz Theatre: Built in 1898, the Ritz was previously known as the Grand Opera House. The Ritz is the center for exhibits and performances by local, national, and international artists.

History & Highlights
Marshes of Glynn: Made famous by Poet Sidney Lanier. Nicknamed “the nursery of the sea,” these marshes are the birthplace of much of the Island's sea life.

The Pier Village: Anchors the south end of the Island and is the social hub for many visitors.

St. Simon's Lighthouse and Museum: The rehabilitated lighthouse, constructed in 1872, shines eighteen miles out to sea and is a navigational aid for boats entering the St. Simons Sound. The Museum contains exhibits on the history of the St. Simons Lighthouse and the way of life of a turn-of-the-century lighthouse keeper and his family.

Gascoigne Bluff: Located on the Frederica River, this is where the live oak timbers were cut in 1794 and used in building “Old Ironsides.” Currently the Gascoigne Bluff is a serene area used for picnicking, dog walking, or baby strolling.

The Fort Frederica National Monument: Offers a unique look into the lives of Georgia's founder, James Edward Oglethorpe and his colony established on St. Simons Island in 1736.

Christ Church, Frederica: One of the Island's most popular sites is the second oldest Episcopal church in Georgia and the third oldest in the country.

Bloody Marsh Battle Site: Battle site of the 1742 war between the English and Spanish.



Little St. Simons Island

History & Highlights
In 1908, Philip Berolzheimer bought Little St. Simons Island for his family to use as their private hunting and fishing preserve. His descendants now operate an upscale cottage resort on the island, which is open year-round and serves a limited number of guests at this 10,000 acre paradise. The resort has received numerous accolades and awards in travel publications. Access can only be gained via private ferry from the north end of St. Simons Island at the Hampton River Club Marina.
